Loan certificates, 1852-1927.

Certificates for loans issued by the State including those issued by the Commissioner of Loans to pay the state's portion of the U.S. Direct Tax during the Civil War and the bounty offered to army volunteers as well as loans to complete and furnish the state hospital at Spring Grove. Certificate entries indicate type of loan, to whom issued, amount, interest rate, maturity date, and authorizing legislation. Many bonds were issued to the State Treasurer to support various sinking funds. Most volumes contain unused certificates.
